Eleven cubs turned up with their bicycles to be tested for the Cyclist Badge during the Saturday of the September school holidays. Akela firstly tested each one of them on the theory - maintenance of the bicycle and road safety. In addtition the cubs had to demonstrate how to check for air pressure, how to pump air into the tyre, and how to mend a puncture. After passing this stage, the cubs were ready to show Akela their skills in riding a bicylce. Initially cubs had to show how they mount and dismount their bicycles, and the safety precautions to take while on the road. Finally, in batches, the cubs were asked to ride around the bus-bay, with a challenging ascent into the ramp leading to the exit gate, followed by a descent to the starting point. All passed with flying colours, although one or two had to take the test twice. The happy cubs who received their Cyclist Badge are:
