Investiture, 18th February 2017

Excitement filled the
Kidzone as we chatted happily and could not wait for the investiture to begin!
Today, the recruits would be officially become cub scouts!
After the colour party,
we lined up in Indian file. Unfortunately, we had to complete an activity
before the investiture.
“Good morning, cubs,”
Mr Chong greeted us with a broad grin on his face. “ Today, we will be making
knots and woggles.” He then explained that those who have attained their Silver
Arrow and above would be taught how to make a woggle with a piece of rope. The
cubs with Bronze Arrow and recruits would be taught knotting. Mr Chong took
charge of knotting while Mr Tan took charge of woggle-making. As for me, I did
the woggle.
Mr Tan taught us how to
transform a piece of rope into a woggle step by step. At first, it was pretty
simple. After a while, it started to get difficult and more complicated. As we
progressed, we had to use more and more strength to pull the rope. I was happy
that my woggle turned out to be quite neat.
After 45 minutes or so,
we got back into Indian file and Chil briefed us about what was going to happen
in the investiture. As soon as we got onto our feet, we started the rehearsal
for the investiture. First up was Bilby. The sixer, recruits and assistant
sixer would go up to Chil and recite the Scout Promise and Scout Law. Once the
six was done, the next group would follow and so on.
Soon it was time for
the real thing. Some parents had already arrived. We were buzzing with
excitement. During the investiture, we did the exact same thing as the
rehearsal except that the recruits received their Pelican scarves from Chil. A
left handshake and the recruits were finally members of the pack!

When we fell back into
Indian file and were finally allowed to sit down, the only thing that could be
heard was, “ Ahhh!”. Not long after, we did sunset party and were released.
What a significant day
it had been! I wish the new cubs all the best and that they will enjoy their
scouting journey as much as I have thus far. And always remember, Be Prepared.
